Bought a black one last week (my old 4th gen died R.I.P). It just made sense, as I have 145gb of tunes that all get regularly rinsed! Works pretty well with my senheisser hd-25'1-I's
I dont know why I would spend more on a touch and get half the space.
EZ you lot :D

Just because 256 is 'perfect' for you does not mean it is perfect for everyone else. I need 500GB SSD. External drive solutions are just way to slow compared to internal SSD. The SSD upgrade on my Laptop was the best upgrade ever, now I want an 27'' iMac with 500GB SSD and lots of memory.
500GB of SSM ? Holey Moley Daddy Warbucks.
PS: you should check out the new PCI SSD (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227581), when they start making external PCI enclosures for "ThunderCat"...youll be golden buddy:)

Holy smoke what is with all the bitching in this thread?
Final Cut X is coming! It seems to have all the stuff i'm dying for.. maybe even CUDA support! Damn now I got to sell my CS5 production suite..
And yeah if you want you can still use iMovie and feel good about it. I know enough people who got a great result out of it because they did not get stuck with tech they didn't understand. All these opinions about personal choices is a total waste of time.
Rejoice the choice and do something creative with all this energy
(FCP is rendering so I have time to waste lol...)

Certainly not the most expensive mac ever sold. The 1990-1992 40 Mhz II fx @ $8,970-$10,970 (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_ii/stats/mac_iifx.html) was shipping while the 1989-1993 II ci sported an MSRP of $8,800 at 25Mhz (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_ii/stats/mac_iici.html). Cheapest the ci sold for even at developer discount at the end of its amazingly long 4+ year run was over $3,300, and those were early 90's dollars.
So to my mind, a few grand on a new machine these days is dirt cheap.I forgot that. You are so right. Apple marketing would be well served to use that fact by reminding 8-core customers what they had to pay back in the day for what is practically NOTHING today. Thanks for that correction. Man that was a lot of money for so little power back then. :(
Both could hold no more than 128MB of RAM running on a 40MHz or 25MHz bus respectively. Biggest possible HD was 160MB. Wow. Talk about a quantum leap.

Dude, the MBP was updated in late April of this year, why would you think it'll be updated four and a half months later??
Because Apple is no longer in a hardware reality distortion field.
Because the MBP is a part of a Pro line, and the consumer iMacs have merom.
Because merom easily swaps in place of yonah at the same price.
I'm hopeful for the new MBP rev. They could have introduced C2D MBPs today - why didn't they? Maybe they're doing more than just a processor change, which might be why the iMacs got their update first. (Apart from the 24'' iMac, the rest of the iMac line is largely untouched.)

I don't think I'd hold up Sony as an example of how to innovate and market -- they lost their focus decades ago. Aside from the walkman, let's see what products has Sony pushed in the last 30 years...
Beta
MiniDisc
Memory Stick
ATRAC
Now we sit back and see if the PS3 and Blu-Ray follow the recent trend. If we're comparing Microsoft to Sony that's what you have to look forward to.
Sorry to have to say this, but the Playstation and PS2 (early years) were a great success.
The PS3 was late, but it is still too early ( like the Zune) to discount it as a good device or threat.

trademarking app store. How pompous. What's next, trademarking computer store, book store, pet store? LOL.
Trademarking office. How pompous. What's next, trademarking word and windows?
And for all the non-legal "experts" out there.
Windows can be trademarked because while it is a generic term, it is not a generic term that describes the product or service.
If "Windows" was a window company, it could not be trademarked because it is a generic terms that describes the product or service.
A huge difference.
No difference at all, really. The concept of windows in GUI computing was introduced long before Microsoft decided to clone Mac OS. Windows in computing is just as generic a term as windows in your home.

The GPU alone in this revision will determine whether I'm buying an iMac or building a PC. If the GPU is even close to competitive in the gaming dept. for a little while, then I'm in.
+1 with the exception of waiting (yet longer) for a mac pro instead of a PC. I'm not a gamer but I would like a decent graphics card for 3D apps.

If you check CNET.com they acctually have a few... In about 15 minutes I can try to find some links for you, but if you want to do some quick searching yourself they have a few PC mini-like comps.
i was looking at dell and could not make one comparable.
thanks i'll check cnet

I predict the Mac Pro, Xserve and a kick-ass preview of Leopard.
And I dobt any consumer items will be introduced (iPod, iTablet, iPhone) .. but they can surprise me if they want!

As for funerals somehow they find out where they are and play music, throw a party, cause a nascence basically to ruin the moment of memory and putting someone to rest. (Emphasis added.)
I reiterate my suggestion you take advantage of the educational opportunities available to you. Your nascent reasoning ability might benefit. ;)

you can turn off the GPS in a phone and most people assume that when you do it stops tracking you yet as it already been shown it just starts storing info base the cell towers.
I just do not like the fact you can not opt out of it. It just feels wrong to me.
Not just wrong but probably illegal in several countries.
My own country belgium for example its illegal to store such data without consent of the person itself.

So long as Apple is around, I do not care if they are growing or not, nor do I want the Apple brand to become associated with ****. People already think Macs are inferior to windows... some guy IM'd me earlier today and the discussion turned to computers... I told him I use an Apple Macintosh, his first response is:
ROFLMAO!!! MACS SUK!!!
disclaimer: I do not actually know this person, somehow they found my AIM SN and IM'd me....
I told him/her a few reasons why macs are better, but he/she wasn't even listening..... I don't want Apple to give basis to his/her argument by making a regular POC like dell, eMachines, or gateway does.....

I just hope they adjust their prices while they are at it. I love the Apple monitors but they are overpriced. Go to CompUSA and you can find at least 4-5 20" wide-screen monitors from $250-$399. At $699 they are way out or touch with the rest of the market. I could see paying a $100 premium at $499 but not $300.
I agree, however, you get what you pay for, as has been proven many times before by apple. how many other monitors of the pix. dimensions of the 30' are there on the market? the resolutions are amazing! also, I haven't seen many dvi's, it amazes me that most consumer monitors are still vga. price = quality when it comes to apple.

The switcheasy color looks good, and it's cheap, but this griffin one (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/flexgrip-action-touch4g) also looks good and this Speck pixelskin (http://www.speckproducts.com/ipod-audio/ipod-touch-4th-gen/pixelskin-black-1501.html) too, but the griffin one seems to be shock/drop proof (at least more so than the other 2).

OK, so apparently you don't have experience with automatics...
But yet you have an opinion on how superior your choice of manuals is.
I had the same thought. Then again, I wasn't sure if he was being sarcastic.

I'm about ready to buy a 20" iMac but I want the new OS. How long do I have to wait?
January best time to buy. New OS is pre-installed, no need to buy computer and OS.
Besides the iMac will either get Meron in about 2 weeks or will get Conroe. Wait!!!!! Get the new machine and new OS together. Just a few months.

i think the only hope for gaddafi would have been a quick repression of the rebel forces.
the longer this drags out, the least support gaddafi will have internally and at some point he will lose the army and then it's game over for him.
we can only hope that that point will be reached with as little casualties as possible.
the good part is that it doesn't appears that the fundamentalists have or will manage to hijack the revolution.
does anyone have a link to a map of the political changes in north africa/middle east, meaning which factions seem to be acquiring strenght in the various areas?
so far it seems to me that fundamentalists are not coming out as dominant anywhere (perhaps bahrein?)

If you don't need color accuracy, DO NOT BUY AN APPLE MONITOR, there are cheaper monitors that, though less accurate, will satisfy you just fine.
Funny that you say "accurate" color.....
Anyone ever hear of the "Pinkening" of the Apple displays over the last 2 years? If you haven't then you may have seen it on your trips to the Apple Store.
Apple LCDs have had a nasty habit of having a Pink hue to them that you cannot dial out of the display. Granted, Apple has been pretty good at replacing these models, but it has been a major issue to those it has affected.
True accurate color will only be had by using color calibration units. So with that rebutle I will say that you will be able to achieve "accurate" color with that $250 LCD monitor from Best Buy.
